What I do

The everyday jobs around a house that never quite get done — and the ones you'd rather not do up a ladder in 35 degrees.

01

DIY & Home Repairs

Flat-pack assembly, shelving, filling and patching, sticking doors, dripping taps, the list on the fridge. Bring me the whole list.

02

Picture & TV Hanging

Pictures, mirrors and TV brackets fixed level and fixed properly — into the right part of the wall, with the cables tidied away.

03

Door & Lock Fitting

New locks and handles, doors that stick or won't close, hinges, catches and draught seals. Handy if you've just bought the place.

04

Plumbing Tasks

Taps, traps, waste pipes, overflows, seals and silicone. The small leaks that get expensive if they're left alone all summer.

05

Lighting Installation

Swapping tired light fittings for new ones, outdoor and terrace lighting, replacing what's stopped working.

06

Garden & Outdoor Jobs

Terraces, paths and paving, painting walls, clearing overgrown corners, gates and fences, general tidying up outside.

Before & after

Same spot, same camera, my work in between. Judge me on this rather than on anything I say about myself.

Old satellite dish removed and the wall made good
Before: a rusty, disused satellite dish bolted to a white villa wall with cables hanging loose Before
Rusted dish, streaked render and loose cable running down the wall.
After: the same villa wall with the satellite dish gone, holes filled and the render repainted clean white After
Dish and brackets off, fixings filled, wall repainted back to clean white.
Sandy side passage turned into a proper paved path
Before: a narrow side passage with a bare strip of loose sand between block edging Before
Edging laid, sub-base levelled and screeded, ready for the slabs.
After: the same side passage finished with grey paving slabs laid neatly between block borders and a drainage channel After
Slabs laid to a set pattern, cut in tight to the drainage channel and gate.

A couple of other jobs

Inside and out — finish work matters just as much as the fix.

Fitted corner wardrobe doors painted soft blue-grey with gold decorative mouldings and matching handles

Freshly painted terrace floor and whitewashed walls beside dark louvred shutters on an Algarve house

Why an English-speaking handyman is worth finding

If you've owned a place out here for any length of time, you already know the problem. Getting a good tradesman is one thing. Being able to explain what's actually wrong to him — and understand the answer — is another thing entirely.

No translation app

You describe it, I understand it

You can tell me the problem the way you'd tell a friend, and I'll tell you what's causing it in the same plain language. Nothing gets lost between us.

No guessing

You know what's being done

Before I start, you'll know what I'm doing and roughly what it'll come to. If I find something else while I'm there, you hear about it before I touch it.

No wasted callouts

Small jobs are still jobs

A lot of trades won't come out for an hour's work. I will. If you've got three little jobs saved up, that's a good afternoon for both of us.

Areas covered

I'm based in the Algarve and work across the region. Send me your location along with the job and I'll tell you straight away whether it's a run I can make — no messing you about.

Common questions

Yes — no job too small. Hanging a mirror, changing a lock, sorting a dripping tap: that's exactly the sort of work I'm set up for. If you've got a few small things saved up, send them all over in one message and I'll do them in one visit.

Yes. Message me a description of the job and a photo or two, and I'll come back to you with what's involved and what it'll cost. You'll know before I start, and if anything unexpected turns up while I'm there, I'll speak to you first.

It depends on what I've already got booked in that week. Message me with the job and your location and I'll tell you honestly when I can be there — I'd rather give you a real date than a hopeful one.

WhatsApp is easiest — 926 199 397 — and photos of the job help a lot. You can also call the same number, email englishhandyman2@gmail.com, or use the form below.
